Lemuel Haynes was an indentured servant for 21 years before becoming the first African-American ordained by a mainstream Protestant church. Haynes was a leader who used his own abilities to make a difference and make positive social change for what he believed in. At Cultivate, we hope to empower community leaders to do extraordinary things with the abilities they already have.⁠
