Staff Training & Coaching

Empowerment Training for Your Team

When more decision-making power is transferred to local organizations, their teams need the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take on that responsibility. More power requires more capacity.

Build Your Team’s Capacity

Cultivate brings our Empowerment Training curriculum directly to your organization, providing practical training and coaching for the staff and volunteers who are taking on greater responsibility.

Your team can work through the same core curriculum offered through our Empowerment Training Program, with training focused on the skills organizations need to lead effectively, manage resources responsibly, build strong organizations, and sustain their work.

Your Team Receives

Training & Coaching Designed for Their Reality

Created for people working in under-resourced communities, including people from those communities themselves. No university education, prior professional training, or familiarity with Western organizational practices is assumed.

Courses cover the practical skills organizations need to lead effectively, manage resources, build strong systems, and sustain their work.

Coaching provides opportunities to ask questions, solve challenges, and apply what they learn to their own organization.

Knowledge Without the Power Imbalance

Your team will learn the organizational practices, systems, and expectations they need to work effectively with funders and partners.

But we don’t present Western ways of working as the only right way. Participants are encouraged to question, adapt, and contextualize what they learn for their own communities and organizations.

Practical Skills They Can Use Immediately

Participants don’t just learn concepts. They develop practical tools and skills they can apply to their own organizations — from organizational planning and governance to fundraising, financial management, leadership, communication, and more.

An Empowerment and Equity Lens

Throughout the training, we ask not only “How do you do this?” but also “Who has the power to decide?” and “Does this approach strengthen or diminish the people and communities you serve?”

The goal is to build organizational capacity without reproducing the dependency and power imbalances that can undermine locally led work.

How the Training Works

A flexible training experience for your team

Your organization can bring Cultivate’s → Empowerment Training directly to your staff and volunteers. We work with you to determine which courses, coaching, and support best fit your team and organizational goals.

Our Process

  1. Identify your needs: We learn about your team, organization, and goals.
  2. Build your training plan: We recommend the courses, coaching, and support that best fit your needs.
  3. Train and apply: Participants complete the training and put what they learn into practice.
  4. Strengthen over time: Coaching and practical tools help your team continue applying and building on what they’ve learned.

Explore the Curriculum

Your team can access the same Empowerment Training curriculum offered to individual leaders, with courses covering organizational leadership, governance, planning, fundraising, financial management, communication, technology, and more.

Designed for Organizations Investing in Local Leadership

This training is designed for organizations that work with, fund, or partner with organizations and leaders in the → Global South, including:

  • International NGOs

Organizations with staff and partners in the Global South who are taking on greater responsibility and decision-making.

  • Funding Partners

"Friends of" organizations, churches, Rotary clubs, and other nonprofits that support organizations in the Global South.

  • Foundations & Grantmakers

Organizations that want to build the capacity of current or potential grantees.

  • Networks & Other Organizations

Organizations working to strengthen local leadership, organizational capacity, and more equitable partnerships.

It is especially valuable for organizations that want to transfer greater responsibility and decision-making power while ensuring their partners have access to the knowledge, skills, and support needed to succeed.

Capacity Building Without the Dependency

Building organizational capacity shouldn’t mean teaching people that someone else’s way of working is always the right way.

Cultivate provides the knowledge and practical skills organizations need to meet professional and funding expectations while trusting participants to determine how those tools should be adapted to their own communities and contexts.

Our goal isn’t simply to make organizations better at meeting outside expectations. It’s to help build the confidence, skills, and systems that allow local leaders to exercise greater ownership and decision-making power.

Cross-Cultural Learning

Pricing That Reflects Your Organization

Our fees are based on your organization’s annual budget, with a sliding scale designed to make comprehensive capacity-building accessible to organizations of different sizes and resources. Our pricing is intentionally designed to make comprehensive training affordable for organizations working with limited resources, while asking organizations with greater resources to contribute more.

For example: An organization with a $450,000 annual budget could train up to 50 staff and volunteers through the full curriculum, 18 hours of staff coaching, plus 10 hours of organizational consulting, for approximately $4,800 for the year.

Your organization’s cost will vary based on your budget, number of participants, and the level of training and coaching you choose. The result is a comprehensive training experience that can reach an entire team — not just a handful of participants — without the cost of traditional professional training.
